RESUMO

In gramineae-soybean intercropping systems, shade stress caused by taller plants impacts soybean growth specifically during the reproductive stage. However, the effects of shade stress on soybean senescence remain largely unexplored. In this research, we applied artificial shade treatments with intensities of 75% (S75) and 50% (S50) to soybean plants at the onset of flowering to simulate the shade stress experienced by soybeans in the traditional and optimized maize-soybean intercropping systems, respectively. Compared to the normal light control, both shade treatments led to a rapid decline in the dry matter content of soybean vegetative organs and accelerated their abscission. Moreover, shade treatments triggered the degradation of chlorophyll and soluble proteins in leaves and increased the expression of genes associated with leaf senescence. Metabolic profiling further revealed that ethylene biosynthesis and signal transduction were induced by shade treatment. In addition, the examination of nitrogen content demonstrated that shade treatments impeded the remobilization of nitrogen in vegetative tissues, consequently reducing the seed nitrogen harvest. It's worth noting that these negative effects were less pronounced under the S50 treatment compared to the S75 treatment. Taken together, this research demonstrates that shade stress during the reproductive stage accelerates soybean senescence and impedes nitrogen remobilization, while optimizing the field layout to improve soybean growth light conditions could mitigate these challenges in the maize-soybean intercropping system.

Background: Human serum albumin (HSA) is a commonly used medication for the treatment of sepsis. However, there is no conclusive evidence as to whether different concentrations of HSA are associated with patient prognosis. This study aimed to evaluate the association between different concentrations of HSA and 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis. Methods: The data for this retrospective study were collected from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV database. Patients with sepsis were divided into two groups according to the concentration of HSA received: 25% and 5% HSA. The primary outcome of this study was the 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis. To ensure the robustness of our findings, we used multivariate Cox regression, propensity score matching, double-robust estimation, and inverse probability weighting models. Results: A total of 76,943 patients were screened, of whom 5,009 were enrolled. 1,258 and 3,751 patients received 25% and 5% HSA, respectively. The 28-day mortality rate was 38.2% (481/1,258) for patients in the 25% HSA group and 8.7% (325/3,751) for patients in the 5% HSA group. After propensity score matching, 1,648 patients were identified. The inverse probability weighting model suggested that 5% HSA received was associated with lower 28-day mortality (hazard ratio [HR]: 0.63, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.54-0.73, p < 0.001). Subgroup and sensitivity analysis confirmed the robustness of the results. Conclusion: In patients with sepsis, 5% HSA received may be associated with a lower risk of 28-day mortality than 25% HSA. Further randomized controlled trials are required to confirm this association.

OBJECTIVE: To identify the risk factors for cervical lymph node metastasis (CLNM) and the feasibility of prophylactic central lymph node dissection. METHODS: The characteristics of 1107 patients were extracted and analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to identify risk factors associated with lymph node metastasis. The relationship between the central lymph node dissection (CLND) and lateral lymph node metastasis (LLNM) was analyzed using the correlation analysis. RESULTS: The probability of CLNM was closely related to the male gender, age <55, and the increase of tumor size. Those patients with an increase in tumor size and CLNM were extremely prone to LLNM. Also, LLNM was more likely to happen in those with the more positive central lymph nodes. Routine prophylactic central lymph node dissection (P-CLND) did not increase the risk of complications. CONCLUSION: P-CLND should be considered as a reasonable surgical treatment for PTC.

Few systematic and scientific assessments have been conducted on marine environmental quality in the coastal waters of Macao, a major city in the Pearl River Delta, China. In this study, we investigated the spatial distribution of trace metals (TMs) and comprehensive contamination indicators of marine water in Macao and evaluated their ecological risks. The total amount of typical TMs (∑TMs) in surface water ranged from 2.71 µg/L to 201 µg/L. ∑TMs (Hg, As, and Cd) in sediments ranged from 0.34 mg/kg to 54.8 mg/kg. TM contamination in surface water was influenced by spatial position and tidal current direction. The spatial distribution and correlation analysis of TMs and comprehensive contamination indicators were assessed, and ecological risk assessment indicated that the surface water and sediments in coastal waters of Macao are of relatively good quality, although high sulfide levels could be detected in surface water.

Capacitive transducers are widely used in fundamental physics experiments, seismology, Earth or planetary observations, and space scientific and technical applications because of their high precision, simple structure, and compatibility with various measurements. However, in real applications, there is a trade-off between their resolution and dynamic range. Therefore, this paper is aimed at enlarging the dynamic range while ensuring high resolution. In this paper, a noise analysis of a capacitive transducer is presented, which shows that the amplitude noise of the carrier wave is the main limiting factor. Hence, a new method of generating a carrier wave with lower-amplitude noise is proposed in the paper. Based on the experimental verification, it is found that the carrier wave produced through the new method performed significantly better than the typical digital carrier wave when they were compared in the same sensing circuit. With the carrier wave produced through the new method, the dynamic range of the capacitive transducer can reach 120.7 dB, which is 18.3 dB greater than for the typical direct digital synthesis (DDS) method. In addition, the resolution of the carrier wave is mainly limited by the voltage reference components.

Rotating Accelerometer Gravity Gradiometers (RAGGs) play a significant role in applications such as resource exploration and gravity aided navigation. Scale factor calibration is an essential procedure for RAGG instruments before being used. In this paper, we propose a calibration system for a gravity gradiometer to obtain the scale factor effectively, even when there are mass disturbance surroundings. In this system, four metal spring-based accelerometers with a good consistency are orthogonally assembled onto a rotary table to measure the spatial variation of the gravity gradient. By changing the approaching pattern of the reference gravity gradient excitation object, the calibration results are generated. Experimental results show that the proposed method can efficiently and repetitively detect a gravity gradient excitation mass weighing 260 kg within a range of 1.6 m and the scale factor of RAGG can be obtained as (5.4 ± 0.2) E/µV, which is consistent with the theoretical simulation. Error analyses reveal that the performance of the proposed calibration scheme is mainly limited by positioning error of the excitation and can be improved by applying higher accuracy position rails. Furthermore, the RAGG is expected to perform more efficiently and reliably in field tests in the future.

A method for automatic compensation of misalignment angles during matching the scale factors of two pairs of the accelerometers in developing the rotating accelerometer gravity gradient instrument (GGI) is proposed and demonstrated in this paper. The purpose of automatic scale factor matching of the four accelerometers in GGI is to suppress the common mode acceleration of the moving-based platforms. However, taking the full model equation of the accelerometer into consideration, the other two orthogonal axes which is the pendulous axis and the output axis, will also sense the common mode acceleration and reduce the suppression performance. The coefficients from the two axes to the output are δO and δP respectively, called the misalignment angles. The angle δO, coupling with the acceleration along the pendulous axis perpendicular to the rotational plane, will not be modulated by the rotation and gives little contribution to the scale factors matching. On the other hand, because of coupling with the acceleration along the centripetal direction in the rotating plane, the angle δP would produce a component with 90 degrees phase delay relative to the scale factor component. Hence, the δP component coincides exactly with the sensitive direction of the orthogonal accelerometers. To improve the common mode acceleration rejection, the misalignment angle δP is compensated by injecting a trimming current, which is proportional to the output of an orthogonal accelerometer, into the torque coil of the accelerometer during the scale factor matching. The experimental results show that the common linear acceleration suppression achieved three orders after the scale factors balance and five orders after the misalignment angles compensation, which is almost down to the noise level of the used accelerometers of 1~2 × 10−7 g/√Hz (1 g ≈ 9.8 m/s²).

A new and simple method to adjust the scale factor of a magnetic force feedback accelerometer is presented, which could be used in developing a rotating accelerometer gravity gradient instrument (GGI). Adjusting and matching the acceleration-to-current transfer function of the four accelerometers automatically is one of the basic and necessary technologies for rejecting the common mode accelerations in the development of GGI. In order to adjust the scale factor of the magnetic force rebalance accelerometer, an external current is injected and combined with the normal feedback current; they are then applied together to the torque coil of the magnetic actuator. The injected current could be varied proportionally according to the external adjustment needs, and the change in the acceleration-to-current transfer function then realized dynamically. The new adjustment method has the advantages of no extra assembly and ease of operation. Changes in the scale factors range from 33% smaller to 100% larger are verified experimentally by adjusting the different external coefficients. The static noise of the used accelerometer is compared under conditions with and without the injecting current, and the experimental results find no change at the current noise level, which further confirms the validity of the presented method.

Differentiation of Fusarium oxysporum is significantly important for unraveling the pathogenetic mechanism of Fusaria wilts. In this study, isolates of F. oxysporum were screened from the soils in the rhizosphere of watermelon plant by Komada medium and differentiated by SSCP approach with the combination of pH-variable electrophoretic medium (Tris-MES-EDTA (TME), pH 6.1) and low temperature (9 degrees C). We found that TME was a good electrophoretic medium and its pH value was variable over the course of electrophoresis in our apparatus. The pH-variable electrophoretic medium made more contribution for the better differentiation of F. oxysporum isolates than low temperature. The combination of TME pH 6.1 and low temperature showed an improved effect on resolution of ssDNAs. Leaving partial nondenatured dsDNA for SSCP was advantageous for differentiation of F. oxysporum isolates. The SSCP patterns of F. oxysporum isolates proved to be highly reproducible. Sequencing data confirmed that this SSCP method could detect one single base change within the 550 bp PCR fragment from the ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region of F. oxysporum.
